Abstract : This paper reviews the use of metal oxide semiconductor film nanostructure in photoelectrochemical cell (PEC). The structure of PEC and its working principle are presented. The techniques employed to synthesize the nanostructures have been highlighted in this paper. It also highlights the various substrates and various nanostructure shapes obtained via those techniques. The effect of synthesis parameters on the properties of nanostructures was discussed. The properties were correlated to the performance of PEC such as short-circuit density (Jsc) and open-circuit voltage (Voc).
