Abstract : In this work, gold doped reduced graphene oxide has been prepared by modified Hummer’s method and employed as a counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) for replacing platinum. Effect of graphene oxide content on the properties of reduced graphene oxide and the performance parameters of the device has been investigated. Effect of various synthesis parameters in the synthesis of gold doped reduced graphene oxide (Au-rGO) such as gold content, annealing temperature and annealing times of Au-rGO on its properties and also the performance parameters of the device were also studied. The counter electrode films has been prepared via hummer’s method. The power conversion efficiency varies with various synthesis parameters. The highest efficiency achieved by in the scope of variation of graphene oxide content was 0.09%. The highest efficiency of 0.175% was achieved by the device utilizing Au-rGO in the scope of various gold contents. The highest efficiencies in the scope of the annealing temperature and annealing time were 0.134 and 0.155%, respectively. This paper gives a short overview on the use of Au-rGO as counter electrode of DSSC and comparison of its performance with the devices utilizing others doped rGO. It also highlights the influence of several synthesis parameters of Au-rGO on its properties and the performance parameters of the device. The energy level diagram of the device comprising each component is presented in this paper.
