Preparation and Characterization of PEO-NiO-LiCF3SO3 Composite Polymer Electrolyte

Abstract : PEO-based composite polymer electrolyte with nickel oxide (NiO) as a filler and lithium triflate (LiCF3SO3) as a dopant was prepared by solution casting technique. Ionic conductivity of the electrolyte as a function of LiCF3SO3 concentration has been studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Ionic conductivity was found to increase with the increase in the salt concentration and demonstrated the highest conductivity of 3.2×10-4 S cm-1 at 30 wt. % LiCF3SO3 content. The observation on structural studies that has been performed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) showing the highest conductivity appears at amorphous phase. While ATR-FTIR analysis confirmed the polymer salt complexes formation has taken place. SEM analysis showed that the rough surface morphology of the electrolyte became smoother with the addition of the salt.
